Winner of the “Best Aboriginal Act of the Year” at 2016’s The Age Music Victoria Awards, Yorta Yorta singer/songwriter Benny Walker is the real deal. His lyrics and epic tales of love and loss are mixed with his passion for people, the land, summer vibes and grooves that go deep. And latest single ‘Ghost’ is no exception.
‘Ghost’, which recently debuted at #1 on the iTunes Blues chart, is an “ode to all the greedy, power hungry, short-ssighted people trying to fuck up our world…this one’s for them.” Says Benny Walker of the track.

Co-written by Benny and ARIA Award winning producer Jan Skubiszewski who also produced Benny’s forthcoming six track EP Undercover.
‘Ghost’ was naturally inspired by the Tibetan Buddhist philosophy referred to as the ‘hungry ghost’. Hungry Ghosts are characters that feature in various eastern iconography who suffer from their greed, envy and jealousy yet remain unconscious to the fact and continue to try and feed their souls from the outside. “Personally I resonate with Taoism but principally all eastern philosophies spin around the concept of when you go within you never go without, if only all the hungry ghosts could get their heads around that idea,” says Benny.
In recent years Benny has played some of the country’s favourite festivals and supported some of Australia’s finest artists. This time he will take to the road on a solo tour titled Wine Women & Soul. This show will play in ‘cabaret seating’ at intimate venues which will see Benny switch between guitar and piano to to soulfully highlight his new songs from Undercover. The Memo Music Hall in Melbourne on October Friday 13th will include a guest performance by rising siren Alice Skye.
“Walker’s voice has the drag and timbre of a natural soul man …his music is pure blues-rock, buoyed by clean, lyrical guitar solos and the throb of electric organ.” Michael Dwyer
“Ghost oozes class. Sophisticated and soulful, it’s another step on Benny Walker’s road to superstardom.” Jeff Jenkins
“A year ago Benny Walker showed potential. Now he’s the real deal, a soul singer as ready to sing about the world as about the heart, in a rich song that sounds old-before-its-time yet anything but oldfashioned.” Bernard Zuel
