The First Lady of Trench Records, Miss Blanks, today finally drops her highly anticipated debut EP Diary Of A Thotaholic (D.O.A.T.) and announces her first national headline tour.
The EP features the recent triple j favouite ‘Skinny Bitches,’ as well as guest appearances from Moonbase (‘Skinny Bitches’), Dai Burger (‘Bread’), Aywin (‘Haters’) and Dugong Jr. (‘Fantasy’).
cting as the executive producer on D.O.A.T., it’s clear across its six tracks that Miss Blanks has begun to take more control of her fledgling yet ferocious style, and as she explains herself made a conscious and calculated effort to establish herself as much more than just hype act.
“This is an incredibly honest body of work. I’m giving a lot of myself, specifically my body and that can be really taxing emotionally and mentally. While it’s fun, sexy and powerful, it’s really honest and in turn, puts me in a vulnerable position for the audience.”
In just over 12 months, she has quickly established herself as one of the most important new voices in Australian hip hop. With fire rhymes, hot style, and a stage presence like no other, she is blowing up the scene in a way that’s too loud for the mainstream to ignore.
With explosive early singles, ‘Clap Clap’ and ‘Freq U,’ she flexed hard and saw the industry clamber to celebrate this new, powerful musical force from Brisbane. Heavyweights like Complex, i-D/Vice, Pilerats, Purple Sneakers, Acclaim, and NLV Records were all early fans, singing Miss Blanks’ praises and celebrating her confident sexuality and strong message of positivity & femme empowerment as a force to be reckoned with.
After signing with superstar Sydney producer Moonbase’s Trench Records in mid-2017, things have only gone from strength to strength for the Brisbane boss. Performing at the global showcase festival Bigsound, she was recognized as one of the stand out performers by triple j, and was named their Unearthed Listen Out Qld winner, securing a spot on the Brisbane leg of the major EDM and hip hop event.
It’s not only her music that’s being championed either – with Miss Blanks being recognized as an activist, having given talks in London for TED and in New York at NYU, as well as being named one of Spotify’s faces for their 2017 marriage equality campaign. All the while serving up an unapologetic rawness in all aspects of her career.
Other accolades include supporting international stars like Little Simz (UK) and Dai Burger (NYC), as well as playing spots on prestigious festivals like Vivid, Dark Mofo and Bigsound.
With the release of D.O.A.T. Miss Blanks also announce her first headline tour of the country, playing shows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in early 2018. These shows will run alongside a swag of major festival and club performances in the near horizon, including the Sydney all ages event The Plot, the legendary Meredith Music Festival, and the massive Laneway Festival. Tickets for her solo headline shows go on sale today at 10am.
2017 was the year Miss Blanks established her name. 2018 will be the year Miss Blanks establishes her reign.
