Who is your ultimate Jazz Hero & Why?

Too many to name only one…. Some names that spring to mind are Kneebody, Skúli Sverrisson, Nir Felder, Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny, Clifford Brown, Esperanza Spalding.

Kneebody get listed first because they have had such a strong personal impact on me and their musical vision is extraordinary, collectively and individually.

Best Australian Jazz musician?

Again… too many to name only one…. Christopher Hale, Gian Slater, Andrea Keller, Simon Starr, Stephen Magnusson, Julien Wilson, Tony Gould…. I could go on for a long time!

Fave Jazz venue to play?

The Jazz Lab is pretty great. I miss the gigs at Gertrude’s Brown Couch with the Melbourne Improviser’s Collective years ago – the vibe there was beautiful.

Last Jazz Record you played?

Kneebody + Daedelus – Kneedelus

Vinyl or Digital?

Ella Fitzgerald or Nina Simone?

Ella Fitzgerald, one of my favourite albums is her duet album with Louis Armstrong “Ella and Louis”.

Event you’re most looking forward to catching at Stonnington Jazz Festival?

It’s a tie between Swooping Duck and Andrea Keller/Tim Wilson I think.

Why should we come see your show?

It’s going to be an exciting night of sound, visuals, exploration and most importantly, honoring the amazing music of Bjork. For anyone who is a fan of Björk, this will be a fresh take on her music, with new arrangements, interesting textures and vocal interpretations. For anyone yet to check her music out, it should be a pretty special night that we would love to share with you!
